The history about „Autohaus Lackermann“

The history of Hermann Lackermann, senior and founder of the company, is nearly the same as for example the history of Adam Opel. Hermann Lackermann was born in Brünen on september the 8th 1909. After his school-education, with an age of 14, he made a training to the forge from 1922 to 1925. Then he worked one year for a company called “Heiser”, where he earned 40 deutsch mark a week.

1926

He went to cologne, to work for an american company called “Mussarie”. He worked there as a pattern maker and was responsible for the time-monitoring. After that he worked a year as a male nurse in “Münster”, before he went back to his hometown Brünen at the end of 1928.

1929

Back at home he worked in Wesel, which is the next town to Brünen, for a car dealer as a mechanic. But only one year later he was jobless. Out of his despair he began to repair bicycles, sewing machines and motorcycles in the cellar of his parents.

1931

He took over a part of the building from the company “Muche”, where he had done his training to the forge, and he got self-employed. In his new store he began to sell sewing machines, bicycles and motorcycles. A service station in addition appertained also to the business.

1935

Some years later Hermann Lackermann acquired a plot of his mother. On this plot he built, up to the year 1935, a residential building with a garage and a filling station too. 1935 was also the year when he married Berta Schüring and founded a family which will include five children: Hermann, Manfred, Wolfgang, Ingeborg and Gisela. But instead of Adam Opel`s children only three of them will be involved into the family business. Hermann, Manfred and Wolfgang will be those which work together with their father in the business. But the husband of Hermann’s daughter Gisela would also work in the same store of the family.

1937

Hermann Lackermann made up for his master examination in the motor vehicle trade. From this point on he went into car business. He became Agent of the brand “DKW” and was furnished with new vehicles by the cup company “Becher”, which has their seat in Wesel.

1944

From 1938 to 1944 he had a small taxi-enterprise beside his normal business, and sometimes, when his employees were super loaded, a taxi was driven by himself. During the war, “Wehrmacht”-vehicles were mainly repaired in the garage. On September 1944 Hermann Lackermann had to fight for Germany as a soldier.

1945

When he came back home on may the 26th in the year 1945, his house and his garage had been destroyed. Only the main walls still stood. He and a friend began to repair cars in barns of some farmers near their home.

1947

In the years 1947 and 1948, the residential building and the garage were built up again, and he restarted to sell cars as an agent of “DKW”. In this year he became also authorized dealer of the brand “NSU”, and sold bicycles, motor scooters and motorcycles of the Brand “NSU” additionally.

1952

He expanded his business and opened a small store, including a filling station, in Wesel on the “Reeser Landstraße”. With this additional business he became main trader of DKW and Heinkel, which also produced motor scooters.

The store on the “Reeser Landstraße”

1960

Eight years later they could purchase a plot from the city Wesel and changed to the “Brüner Landstrasse” in Wesel. There they could build a bigger store with a public filling station than on the “Reeser Landstraße”.

1962

Opel asked the company to sell cars for them and from that point on Lackermann became authorized dealer of the brand Opel. To get this contract from Opel, they had to get rid of all the other contracts. From now on the garage on the “Brüner Landstraße” became bigger and bigger.

1964

In 1964 the former Opel store “Weber” was loaded by Lackermann. The business was right in the middle of the city Wesel. There they opened a used car headquarter.

1975

In this year the company closed the public filling station in front of the store. They built a new gas station on the backyard, which wasn’t for the public. Only customers of the company Opel Lackermann were allowed to refuel their car there. And instead of the old public filling station, they built their first showroom for cars at this place.

1979

Opel Lackermann buyed a new plot in the industrial district of Brünen, and built a complete new garage, including a car showroom and a public filling station, in Brünen. And the first garage, Hermann Lackermann had ever build, was closed.

1980

In this year, Hermann Lackermann, who founded the company “Autohaus Lackermann”, delivered the company at his three sons Hermann, who became the leader of the store in Brünen, Manfred and Wolfgang Lackermann, which became the leaders of the stores in Wesel. Also in this year, the company in Brünen became an own enterprise, which is called “Brüner Autohaus”.

1983

In 1983, Lackermann could purchase a new plot of the city Wesel, which is direct next to the business at the Brüner Landstraße. To get this plot, Wesel wanted to have the used car headquarter of Lackermann in the centre of the town, to build some new apartments for the inhabitants of Wesel. Finally, that barter deal was the only way to get this plot and Lackermann had to sell their plot with the Building at the city. And in the same year they built a large used car showroom on their new plot, which was of course the new used car headquarter of Lackermann.

1985

The company “Autohaus Lackermann” became road-service-partner of the “ADAC”, the biggest automobile association in Germany. The meaning of this agreement is very easy to explain, if the car of an ADAC-member has a breakdown, or the member is involved into an accident, the ADAC calls the road service partner who is responsible for this field, and an employee of the company departs and he helps and/or he tows away the vehicle. Everybody who wants to be a road-service-partner of the ADAC has to make this service available 24 hours a day.

1987

On the occasion of the 125th birthday of the concern Opel and the 25 years old trader contract between Opel and the car dealer Lackermann, the company organized an event week. In this week something other was offered every day in the exhibition halls, as for example a fashion show and a big Party.

1990

The former agent “Opel Beck” in Xanten was taken over by the firm “Opel Lackermann”. Also a driving school, which was also taken over, appertains to this business. Xanten is a little town, which is about 20 kilometres away from Wesel. In this year they became authorized dealer of „General Motors“, too. And from that point on, they were allowed to sell all the cars “General Motors" had constructed, like for example a cadillac, a buick or a chevrolett.

1991

The firm “Lackermann” became a member of the “VBA”. This short cut is standing for the expression “Verband der Bergungs- und Abschleppunternehmen”. To describe it in english, you can say that this is an association of companies, which recover and tow away cars. The advantage of this membership is that you receive more towing tasks, because the police and the arrangement offices began to look after that sign, which normally is standing for a highly qualified wrecking service.

1992

On October, the former factory ground of the company “Joens”, which made things like a die out of steel, was taken over. This former factory ground had a size of 15000 m², including a factory hall, which had a size of 800 m². In this year, Lackermann also took over an insurance agency of the company “LVM”. The insurance agency is led by Nicole Seehafer, the daughter of Wolfgang Lackermann. And from now on insurance can be offered in addition for every car, which will be sold. Both new objects are located right beside the main store at the “Brüner Landstraße”.

1995

Opel Lackermann was certified by the “VBA”. And since the beginning of 1995, Lackermann is a certified VBA company. In the meantime, all the automobile associations and the police preferred this kind of VBA member.

1998

In the year 1998, the 30.000th new vehicle was delivered in the main store Wesel. In addition, the car house constructed a new body department in the former factory hall, which they had taken over in 1992.

1999

The founder of the company, Hermann Lackermann senior, celebrated his 90th birthday and the diamond diploma, with two years delay, was presented to him.

2000

Opel Lackermann received the “Lueg”- environmental seal and was certified, by the company “Dekra”, to the DIN ISO 9002. The short cut DIN is standing for german industry norm and the meaning of ISO is international organisation for standardisation. In order to receive these seals, you have to keep a lot of handicaps, which will be proofed regularly. To make it short, these two, the environmental seal and the certification to the DIN ISO 9002, are things you need to have to be successful in this branch.

2001

At the beginning of the year, the authorized Opel and Saab dealer “Behnen” in Bocholt was taken over. Bocholt is about 25 kilometres away from Wesel and lies near the dutch boundary. Also a paint shop appertained to this company, and from now on, Lackermann coats their cars themselves and sells cars of the brand Saab too. In the same year, the plot of the company “Samen-Enk”, including a small store, was taken over. This was the only plot, which decollated the former factory ground of the company “Joens” and the main store at the “Brüner Landstraße”.

The store in Bocholt

2006

In the middle of the year, the Ford dealer “Huying” closed there doors in Wesel. Since that time, Ford tried to close that “open point” as fast as possible. The company Lackermann was lucky to get that contract with Ford, and from now on also Ford cars were sold and repaired in Wesel and Xanten. To have the perfect know how from the beginning on, also 4 members of staff from Huying were taken over.

2008

Today, the company is lead by the two sons Manfred and Wolfgang and there sons Jörg, Sven, André and Maik Lackermann. The firm occupies approximately 150 employees, including the trainees, in the four stores: Wesel, Brünen, Bocholt and Xanten. The plot in Wesel has a size of 30.000 m², and the buildings on it have a size of about 9000 m². Right now, Lackermann sells cars of the brands Opel, Saab, Ford, Cadillac, Corvette, Chevrolet and Hyundai. Since the beginning of selling cars, also a towing vehicle stood by. First it was a Hanomag, then an Opel-flash followed. Today, Lackermann has 4 towing vehicles, and one of them has besides a crane. Cars, mobile homes and trucks to 5 tons total weight can be towed away. So if you have an accident or just a small breakdown, the wrecking service of Lackermann is 24 hours a day on 365 days a year available. So don’t hesitate to call us under 0281/8130 or just visit one of our dealerships.
